Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept undergraduate students for clinical internships?
We primarily offer clinical internships for graduate students. We also accept a limited number of undergraduate students in vocational programs. Internship availability depends on our staff’s capacity to provide quality mentorship.
If I am a current SummitStone employee, can I gain internship hours concurrent to my paid employment?
No. SummitStone staff are not eligible to participate in internships within the organization.
Are placements paid?
No. All student placements are unpaid because they’re tied to academic credit from your school.
How long is a typical placement?
The length of your placement is determined by your school and must be approved by SummitStone. We do our best to accommodate the timeframe and experience you’re looking for, though final dates depend on staff availability and scheduling.
What paperwork do I need to submit if I’m offered a placement?
All learners must submit:
- Proof of a current flu shot
- Confidentiality form
- Volunteer and Employee Criminal History Service Form
Depending on the type of learning experience and how long you’ll be with us, you may also need to submit:
- Your résumé
- Background check
- Proof of enrollment in your program
Important: If you don’t submit required paperwork by the deadline, your start date may be delayed or you may not be able to participate.
Does an internship help me get hired later?
Many students who complete placements with us go on to apply for jobs at SummitStone. While an internship doesn’t guarantee employment, it gives you valuable experience and can strengthen your future application.
What if I need accommodations?
SummitStone is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities. If you need an accommodation to participate in a learning experience or the application process, please email us at studentlearners@summitstonehealth.org.
