May 20, 2026 – May is Mental Health Awareness Month; one Peer’s story + FREE training to help those around you.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Every May, Mental Health Awareness Month invites us to pause and reflect on something that touches every single one of us, whether we’re navigating our own mental health journey or supporting someone we love.

At SummitStone, we’re joining the conversation by doing what we do best, meeting our community where they are.

One of the most meaningful ways to participate this month is to learn how to show up for someone who’s struggling. That’s why we offer free training in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR), two evidence-based programs that give everyday people the knowledge and confidence to help when it matters most.

Mental Health First Aid is an 8 hour in-person course that teaches you how to recognize the signs of a mental health challenge and respond with care, whether it’s a friend, a coworker, a family member, or even yourself.

QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is a focused, virtual 90-minute training on suicide prevention. It’s approachable, practical, and could save a life.

You don’t need a background in mental health to take these classes, simply come as you are.

Celebrating Peer Leadership in NOCO: Sandra Krone’s Journey

Sandra Krone, CPFS, AAT, recently completed the Northern Colorado Peer Recovery Leadership Development Program, funded by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office.

Sandra learned about trauma-informed leadership, peer support, and healthy boundaries. “My favorite part of the program was being in a learning space with other peers who value recovery, authenticity, and growth. I appreciated that the program honored peer voice and encouraged us to lead in ways that matched our values,” Sandra shared.

Sandra feels confident and ready to support others in recovery and advocate for peers in her community.

Programs like this help strengthen peer support, which research shows leads to better relationships, lower relapse rates, and more success in treatment.

Thank you, Sandra, for your dedication to our community!

Thank You, League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters of Larimer County stopped by this Mental Health Awareness Month with a meaningful gesture: banners for our locations that read “Thank you SummitStone Behavioral Health Heroes.” We’re grateful to be seen and celebrated by such a valued community partner. Thank you League of Women Voters of Larimer County!
